Beedie Living’s latest proposal, designed by Merrick Architecture, seeks to build a nine-storey mixed use building in Chinatown with 111 residential units, and three levels of underground parking. It would also include commercial uses at ground-level and a seniors cultural space.

Tuesday’s open house provides the public a chance to speak with developers and city staff and to ask questions about the project. The application will go to the city’s development permit board on Oct. 2 for approval.

There is no mention of social housing in the latest application, whereas previous iterations of the project suggested 25 units of social housing and 106 market condos would be included.

“It is irresponsible for any developer to build luxury condos in Chinatown when poor and working-class people are in dire need of affordable housing in this neighbourhood,” said King-mong Chan of the Chinatown Concern Group.
