As announced earlier this week, today’s Urban Design Panel meeting took place in front of a crowd of members of various Chinatown groups.
They were here for the first part of the meeting, which concerned the 105 Keefer Street project from developer Beedie Living.
After a presentation of the model by Beedie Living representatives, the panel shared their remarks.
Most panel members praised the developer’s efforts to integrate community space and social housing in the building, then proceeded to tear apart the design, focusing on its inappropriate size and lack of relation to the rest of Chinatown.
Beedie Living’s architects now have to devise a fourth proposal.
Although many community members would love to see this project scrapped altogether, this new setback for the developer is perceived as a small victory.
