Upcoming Event: Chinatown Stories Vol. 6 Launch Party – 3pm Saturday April 25

We’re excited to launch our FIRST FULLY BILINGUAL edition of Chinatown Stories – Volume 6: Tide 潮!

Come take a first look at the latest volume of Chinatown Stories and experience the different interpretations of the theme, “Tide 潮”, through contributor readings, remarks from our editorial team, tea, and crafts!

Tides erode and support life. They can submerge and also reveal. As individual water droplets accumulate and gather, they become powerful forces of nature to be reckoned with. In producing this volume, we surface the complexities of Chinatown, the diaspora, and its voices—in a city and neighbourhood inseparable from its waters.

Celebrate with an afternoon of tea, snacks, and readings from our contributors, while crafting your own DIY bookmark to hold your place in Volume 6 with watercolours, ink stamps, and tassels! Contributors will be available for questions and conversation. This event is FREE and open to all!

Volunteers Needed!

We are also looking for volunteers to help us make this event happen! Volunteer shifts are a minimum of 1 hour long, but we welcome those who can help us for the whole event! We’re looking for:

  • Greeters: Help welcome attendees and direct them towards the event! As this is our first time hosting an event outside of Chinatown, we’ll need extra help to ensure that folks don’t get lost on the way in; greeters will be posted inside and outside of 312 Main.
  • Crafts Facilitators: Help facilitate the DIY bookmark craft activity with watercolours, ink stamps, and tassels. This role is mostly seated and will include instructions on how to make and share the crafts.
  • Floaters: Help make sure the event runs smoothly by answering questions and connecting participants who need help with relevant members of the Chinatown Today team!
  • Set-Up/Take-Down: Help us before the event to prepare or afterwards to clean up and take down tables/chairs. This role requires a limited amount of heavy lifting, and since most equipment belongs to 312 Main, take-down should be relatively straightforward.

Fill out this form to be a volunteer for this event or to be a Chinatown Today general volunteer. We’re excited to have you join our team!
