The “Let’s Walk Chinatown!” Card Deck

Our card deck illustrates 32 ways for interacting with Chinatown in so-called “Vancouver”. Each card features a fond memory from our community’s responses to the question, “What are your everyday joys in Chinatown?” From trading cards to tai chi classes, animatronics to dim sum, and tea to TCM shop cats, we hope that the activities illustrated on each card will inspire you to experience Chinatown’s rich life and stories in new ways.

This project was led by Chinatown Today and funded by the DTES Small Arts Grant. A special acknowledgement of our four illustrators, Cathy Xu, Dax Heaven, Gal/Munyi, Pearl Wong and our product designer, Kathrin Teh.

Volunteer With Us!

We can’t put on free events like this launch party without the help of our volunteers and community. If you’re interested in helping us make this event happen, please volunteer to help us with:

  • Set-up/Take-down: Loading/unloading tents, chairs, and equipment, and setting them up for the event. This role requires some heavy lifting.
  • Craft Helpers: Helping attendees with arts and crafts. This role is mainly seated and skills with scissors/folding creases are a plus! We will teach you how to make the crafts we’re sharing at the event itself.
  • Floaters: Helping greet and welcome participants, answer questions (or direct questions to the relevant Chinatown Today board members), and/or filling in for the Craft Helpers when they need short breaks.

Fill out this form to be a volunteer for this event, or to be a Chinatown Today general volunteer. We’re excited to have you join our team!
