Upcoming Event: Hot & Noisy Mahjong Social – 2-9pm Saturday Feb 17

Upcoming Event: Hot & Noisy Mahjong Social – 2-9pm Saturday Feb 17

Despite claims that Hot & Noisy Mahjong Socials wouldn’t return to Chinatown after the end of last summer, the Youth Collaborative for Chinatown (now Chinatown Generations Society) and Bagua Artist Association have come together to bring the mahjong back on Saturday, February 17. Join in the fun and celebrate the new year with mahjong, writing traditional decorations 揮春 (fai1 cun1 | huī chūn), ring toss, crafts, games, and karaoke!

Now at a new location (Dragon Boat BC’s future Chinatown Hub at 122 E Pender Street), and with a longer run-time (from 2-9pm), this Lunar New Year Mahjong Social aims to extend the 熱鬧 (jit6 naau6 | rè nào) energy beyond New Year’s Day and the Parade.

If you’re thinking of checking out this event, it’s the perfect opportunity to spread the love around Chinatown and support local grocers, bakeries, restaurants, and more!

When: Saturday, February 17 from 2 to 9pm
Where: 122 E Pender Street
Cost: Free!

Things to bring:

  • your own poh poh/gung gung (or ngin ngin/maa4 maa4/naai4 naai2/ je4 je2)
