Tourism Challenge Returns to Chinatown with a Photo Contest

The Tourism Challenge is a Vancouver tourism industry tradition, where staff and volunteers at participating businesses, sites, and organizations can gain free entry to tourist attractions around the city and re-educate themselves on tourism-related information. In addition to the challenge for tourism staff and volunteers, some neighbourhoods, including Chinatown, are

While the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden (578 Carrall), the Chinatown Storytelling Centre (168 E Pender), and the Chinese Canadian Museum have all remained on the list as “attraction” destinations over the last few years, Chinatown itself hasn’t been a “neighbourhood” destination in some time. This year, however, the Chinatown BIA has rejoined the challenge, offering a maximum of two stamps at any of five locations in the neighbourhood:

  • The Boss Bakery & Restaurant (532 Main) – open 7:00am-6:00pm
  • Jade Dynasty (137 E Pender) – open 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Ten Ren Tea & Ginseng (500 Main) – open 10:00am-5:30pm
  • Fiorino Italian Street Food (212 E Georgia) – open 11:30am-10:30pm
  • Private & Co. (83 E Pender) – open 12:00pm-6:00pm

Whether or not you’re collecting stamps, it appears that the related photo contest (with a $200 prize package) is open to the general public. All you have to do is share a photo of yourself at any of the above five locations (either on instagram or facebook) tagging @VisitChinatown and including the following hashtags: #DiscoverYourHood #exploreBC #VisitChinatown #VisitVancouver #ChinatownYVR.

While not part of the contest, tag or send your photos to @Chinatown.Today if you post on instagram and we’ll share your post on our story!

The contest runs until May 31, 2024, and winners will be chosen on June 7.
